World Record Club – Janice McBride Design
Its been ages since I have posted any record album covers, partly because I wasnt finding any more designs worth adding to my collection…..today that changed though when in a charity shop I came across a whole stack of World Record Club covers I hadn’t seen before…..I was beginning to think I wouldn’t find any more as they have been really hard to find in the last 6 months or more, and had almost given up hope of ever finding more.
The standout of todays finds was this one, unusually signed by the Artist/Designer. This is because it is taken from an original artwork purchased by the WRC from an exhibition by four artists who had worked together at Paton Advertising in the early 1960′s. The exhibition was entitled “Collage” and was held at The Argus Gallery in Melbourne in November 1966, and the work entitled “Spanish”.
Janice McBride was the Melbourne Artist, and from looking at her C.V. this was the first time she exhibited. Do have a look at the body of work on her website from 1966 until the present day….she has produced some superb printmaking and painting.
The Album cover image of this painting in the authoratitive ”It’s Another World Record” by Geoff Hocking - is for a different composer , which is not unusual – World Record Club often used the same design for a number of Albums.
