Typography as Pattern

This is a first….. for this blog anyway…… In my other job as a collector and seller of vintage Ceramics, I came across these stunning Danish pieces today and snapped them up.

The typography, colour and design of the pieces totally captivated me, (as it did a lot of other people going by the price I had to pay for it at Auction!)

It was made by Kronjyden Nissen of Denmark (no longer in existence) c 1970′s. It is actually a cigar box and ashtray – although the “ashtray” is large enough to use as a serving dish (except for the fact it says “ash” in Danish)  I didn’t have enough light for the photo so the colour isnt quite right - the colour is more grey than green.

I think it is such a superb piece of product design combined with the  typographic pattern in a very simple but effective …and Oh so Danish way.
