Roman Cieslewicz Posters

Quite by accident I stumbled on a huge collection of 293 works by Roman Cieslewicz (1930-1996)- while having a look around the online resources of The Centre Pompidou, Paris.  I think I have just touched on the tip of the iceberg with over 60,000 artists works online.

While Cieslewicz is probably more recognised for his stunning movie posters, I didn’t really have an idea of the volume and breadth of his work.

I was particularly attracted (apart from the Polish movie posters of course) to his work from the late 1960′s and 1970′s which I have put up for this post.

He was  such a prolific poster and graphic designer – having held over 100 one man exhibitions in his lifetime.

Wikipedia has a good biographical entry on Cieslewicz , with links to other sites which have examples of and information about his work, but make sure you have a good look around the Pompidou, I’m sure there are real gems to be found from so many disciplines – next on my list is to have a look at is their photography archive!
